Allowance

We started her allowance since her birthday. I think three is too young to start. She gets the idea of money, but saving is hard to grasp. We are dealing with a new saver, I am sure we will get there one day.

So far, she wants to save money to buy her best friend a Buzz toy. Her best friend is a boy one year older. Sometimes when I think about this, I can't help but notice how different her life is than her sister's. They grow up in the same family and go to the same daycare, but kids come and go. When her sister was at this age, there were girls at the same age, so her sister was more "plugged in" about the girl stuff. Rugrat has a completely different experience. She seems to like pink just now. She knows about Princesses, but not that into it. Same family and daycare, but different experiences.

Anyway, we explained to her how each bucket of money works. It is pretty hard to explain long-term goals for a child this age; all she wants to do is to save money to buy her friend a toy. Her friend is very important to her.
